Cognate to Karakhanid اُذْ (öδ, time), اُذْلَكْ (öδleg, time), Southern Altai ӧй (öy, time), Old Turkic 𐰇𐰓 (öd, time). The sense "noon, midday" was already attested in the 13th century Central Asia.
