Etymology

Botanist Jan Svatopluk Presl used the name čirůwka in 1846 for the genus Russula[1] (which is called holubinka in (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Czech nowadays), but the word is older with unclear origins. It is related to the (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Polish dialect expression cyr (mushroom), Polish czyr (tinder) and Ukrainian чір (čir, tinder).[2]
