Vietnamese[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Cognate with mainstream Vietnamese dưới; inherited from an unattested Central Old Vietnamese form different from the Northern Old Vietnamese attested in early Nôm texts.

This form appears to be distributed in Thanh Hoá, where *-l > /n/ was a common sound change.
