Inherited from Proto-Slavic *Lužica, derived from *luža. Cognate with Czech Lužice, German Lausitz, Lower Sorbian Łužyca, Polish Łużyce, Slovak Lužica and Ukrainian Лу́жиця (Lúžycja).
