From Proto-Algonquian *šenkwehsa.[1] Cognate to Ojibwe zhaangweshi, Northern East Cree ᐊᒋᑳᔥ (acikaash), Southern East Cree ᐊᒋᑳᔥ (acikaash), Malecite-Passamaquoddy ciyahkehs, Atikamekw cakweciw, Blackfoot siiyíí’kayi.
