From Sanskrit यभति (yabhati), from Proto-Indo-European *h₃yébʰeti. Cognate with Marathi झवणे (jhavṇe) and Konkani झव्चे (zhavce), Punjabi ਜੱਢਣਾ (jaḍḍhaṇā).
