Small- and large-bowl variants of ⟨ɤ⟩, and the dated 'baby gamma' variant. |
Translingual
[edit]Etymology
[edit]Pronunciation
[edit]IPA: (file)
Symbol
[edit]ɤ
- (IPA) a close-mid back unrounded vowel.
- (superscript ⟨𐞑⟩, IPA) [ɤ]-coloring or a weak, fleeting, epenthetic or echo [ɤ].
Usage notes
[edit]Sometimes mistaken for or replaced with the velar consonant letter Latin gamma (ɣ), which unlike ɤ drops below the baseline. The old 'baby gamma' form was changed to the modern form to help avoid such confusion.
