Etymology[edit]

From εὐ- (eu-, good) +‎ -κλῆς (-klês, fame). Possibly formed as long ago as Proto-Indo-European; compare Proto-Indo-Iranian *Hsućráwas, Latin Vesclevesis and Sanskrit वसुश्रवस् (vasuśravas).
