[edit]From Scythian *Spalarīźa (“commander of army”), composed of *spala (“army”) (cf. Old Persian 𐎿𐎱𐎠𐎭 (spāda, “army”), Parthian 𐭏𐭎𐭐𐭀𐭃 (ispāδ, “army”)) + *rīźa (“desiring, commanding”) (cf. Khotanese rriś (“to desire”), Sogdian 𐽀𐼷𐼵𐼸𐽀𐼰𐼸 (rēš-karē)).[1]
Cognate with Gandhari 𐨭𐨿𐨤𐨫𐨁𐨪𐨁𐨭 (śpaliriśa).
