Cognate with βιβρώσκω (bibrṓskō, I eat), from Proto-Indo-European *gʷerh₃-. Cognates include Sanskrit गिरति (girati), Old Armenian կեր (ker, food) and կոկորդ (kokord, throat), and Latin vorō.
