Etymology

Ultimately from Sanskrit कर्पास (karpāsa, cotton), whence also Hebrew כַּרְפַּס (karpás, fabric of cotton), κάρπᾰσος (kárpasos, fabric of cotton), Latin carbasus (fabric of cotton).
