Etymology

From Arabic جُلَّاب (jullāb, “rosewater, julep”), itself from Persian گلاب (golâb, “rosewater”). The term (as ζουλάπιον) is attested already in the 8^th c. indicating a direct borrowing from Arabic rather than through Old Anatolian Turkish جلاب (cüllab).
