Etymology

Furnée compares ἄκαστος (ákastos, “maple”), noting that the hard wood of this tree is excellent for building; he further compares κόστον (kóston, “wooden part of a carrier”), suggesting a possible Pre-Greek origin. Then again, compare Sanskrit काष्ठ (kāṣṭha, “wood, timber”).
