Ancient Greek

Etymology

Traditionally associated with πίμπλημι (pímplēmi, to fill), but this is popular etymology. Beekes preferably derives it from Proto-Indo-European *kʷel- (to turn), the same root of πόλος (pólos, axis, pole).
