From an Iranian source common to Old Armenian սուսեր (suser, sword), Classical Syriac ܣܦܣܝܪܐ (sap̄sērāʾ, sword), Jewish Babylonian Aramaic ספסרא, ספסירא (sap̄sērāʾ, sword) and Persian شمشیر (šamšir, sword).
