According to Beekes, the word could be Lua error in Module:parameters at line 333: Parameter 2 should be a valid language, etymology language or family code; the value "pregrc" is not valid. See WT:LOL, WT:LOL/E and WT:LOF., in view of the variant and the meaning. Several unconvincing attempts have been made by Pokorny, who compares the word with Sanskrit दोधति (dodhati, fierce, impetuous, turbulent) and by Schindler, who assumes an original color term, like in the plant name τεύθριον (teúthrion).
