Ancient Greek

Etymology

According to Beekes from Proto-Indo-European *gʰlh₂-d- (hail; hoarfrost) and cognate with Polish żłód (glaze, hoarfrost). It is also a cognate of Persian ژاله zhāla ("hail").[1]
