From Proto-Permic *oʒ́, from Proto-Finno-Permic *ońća (part, share), ultimately borrowed from Proto-Indo-Iranian *Hánćas. Permic cognates include Komi-Zyrian водз (vodź) and Komi-Permyak одз (odź).
