Etymology[edit]

Possibly borrowed from Polish braterstwo, as was брате́рський (bratérsʹkyj) from braterski. Ultimately from Proto-Slavic *bratrьstvo. By surface analysis, брате́р(ський) (bratér(sʹkyj)) +‎ -ство (-stvo). Doublet of бра́тство (brátstvo). Compare also Belarusian братэ́рства (bratérstva).
