Etymology[edit]

From Ancient Greek αἱμορροΐς (haimorrhoḯs), from αἱμόρροος (haimórrhoos, flowing with blood), from αἷμα (haîma, blood) and the root of ῥέω (rhéō, flow). Compare Russian геморро́й (gemorrój), Belarusian гемаро́й (hjemarój).
