Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Mordvinic *laŋgə (Grünthal suggests *lanka instead), borrowed from Proto-Baltic *lankā (whence Latvian lañka (“low, flat surface; big low field”), Lithuanian lankà (“field, lowland; low, flat surface”)).[1]

Cognate with Moksha ланга (langa).
