Etymology 1

From Proto-Slavic *lučìti (to find? to throw? to reach? (reflexive) to happen?), from an Indo-European root *lewk- (light); compare Proto-Slavic *lũčь (ray, torch). The meaning "to hunt at night with a torch" may have a separate etymology as a denominative verb derived from *lũčь.
