Etymology[edit]
From Chagatai ماموق (mamuq, “cotton”), from Middle Persian pmbk' (pambag, “cotton”).
Cognate with Kazakh мамық (mamyq), Kyrgyz мамык (mamık), Uzbek momiq, Uyghur مامۇق (mamuq), Turkish pamuk (“cotton”).
