From Classical Mongolian ᠰᠠᠷᠲᠠᠭᠤᠯ (sartaɣul), from Middle Mongol ᠰᠠᠷᠲᠠᠭᠤᠯ (sartaɣul, the Sarts, plural), from Karakhanid [Term?], ultimately from Sanskrit सार्थवाह (sārthavāha).
