Etymology

From Proto-Mongolic *tarbagan, compare Mongghul Lua error in Module:parameters at line 360: Parameter 1 should be a valid language or etymology language code; the value "mjg" is not valid. See WT:LOL and WT:LOL/E..

Sometimes connected with Ulch, Nanai тарга (targa, beaver), which themselves may be compared with Nivkh тʼаӻр (tʼaġr, chipmunk).
