[edit]From *tašqïn (“flood”), from Proto-Turkic *d(i)āĺ- (“to overflow”).
Cognate with Tatar ташкын (taşkın), Kazakh тасқын (tasqyn), Kyrgyz ташкын (taşkın), Khakas тасхын (tasxın), Uzbek toshqin, Uyghur تاشقىن (tashqin), Turkmen daşgyn, Azerbaijani daşqın (“flood”), etc.
