From Proto-Common Turkic *tōzan (dust).

Cognate with Tatar тузан (tuzan, dust), Kazakh тозаң (tozañ, dust; pollen), Uzbek toʻzon (dust), Uyghur توزاڭ (tozang, dust; pollen), Turkmen tozan (dust).

Compare also the terms in Siberian Turkic languages derived from a different archetype from the same verbal stem: Southern Altai тозын (tozïn, dust), Khakas тозын (tozın, dust), Tuvan доозун (doozun, dust).
