Bashkir

Etymology

From *tozañ (dust; pollen; that which disperses in the air), from the verbal stem Proto-Turkic *tōŕ- (to disperse in the air; get scattered), parallel to the noun stem *tōŕ (dust).

Compare to Tatar тузан (tuzan, dust), Kazakh тозаң (tozañ, dust; pollen), Uzbek to'zon (dust), Uyghur توزاڭ (tozang, dust; pollen), Turkmen tozan (dust).

Compare also the terms in Siberian Turkic languages derived from a different archetype from the same verbal stem: Southern Altai тозын (tozïn, dust), Khakas тозын (tozın, dust), Tuvan доозун (doozun, dust).
