Erzya[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Mordvinic *ťožäń, from earlier *tušanti~*tušamti, borrowed from Proto-Baltic *tū́(k)stantis (whence Latvian tūkstotis, Lithuanian tūkstantis). Compare Finnish tuhat (tuhante-), Livonian tūontõ, borrowed from the same Baltic root.
