Mongolian[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Mongolic *tölge (divination, prediction). Compare Buryat түлэг (tüleg).

Perhaps related to Proto-Turkic *tǖĺ (dream) and Proto-Tungusic *tolkin (dream). Compare also Turkish düş, Bashkir төш (töş), Kazakh түс (tüs), Uyghur چۈش (chüsh), Chuvash тӗлӗк (tĕlĕk), Evenki толкин (tolkin) and Manchu ᡨᠣᠯᡤᡳᠨ (tolgin). (Can this(+) etymology be sourced?)

Noun[edit]

төлгө (tölgö) (Mongolian spelling ᠲᠥᠯᠭᠡ (tölge))

  1. mantic
  2. voodooism
