From Old East Slavic уродъ (urodŭ, feebleminded, witless, foolish), from Proto-Slavic *ǫrodъ, ancient deverbative of *roditi with nominal negative prefix *ǫ-, zero grade of *ne, from Proto-Indo-European *n̥-.
