From Proto-Turkic *ɨŋɨr (twilight).

Cognate with Tatar эңгер (eñger), Kazakh іңір (ıñır), ымырт (ymyrt), Kyrgyz иңир (iŋir), иңирт (iŋirt), Karachay-Balkar ингир (iñir, evening), Turkmen iňrik (evening twilight); Tuvan имир (imir), имиртиң (imirtiñ, twilight), Yakut им (im, twilight), Chuvash ӗнер (ĕner, yesterday), etc.
