Inherited from Old Ruthenian ꙗ҆́года (ja҆́hoda), from Old East Slavic ꙗгода (jagoda), from Proto-Slavic *agoda, from Proto-Balto-Slavic *ṓˀgāˀ, from Proto-Indo-European *h₂ógeh₂. Cognates include Ukrainian я́года (jáhoda).
