[edit]Inherited from Old Slovak jadlovec (“juniper”), from Proto-Slavic *alovьcь, contaminated by the unrelated *edlь (“spruce”). Cognates include Slovak jalovec and Carpathian Rusyn яло́вець (jalóvecʹ).
