Cognate with Old Uyghur [script needed] (qïjïn, “torment; punishment”); Tatar кыен (qıyın, “difficult”), Kazakh қиын (qiyn, “difficult”); Kyrgyz кыйын (kıyın, “difficult”), Uzbek qiyin (“difficult”), Uyghur قىيىن (qiyin, “difficult”); Southern Altai кыйын (kïyïn, “torment, suffering; punishment”).
