Old Armenian[edit]

Etymology[edit]

A Southwestern Iranian borrowing, from the family of Old Persian 𐎠𐎼𐎫𐎧𐏁𐏂𐎠 (a-r-t-x-š-ç-a /⁠artaxšaçā⁠/). According to Ačaṙean, the immediate source of the Armenian is the unattested form *Artašas.
