Old Armenian[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From *երազգաւ ‎(*erazgaw) +‎ որս ‎(ors), the former an old ablative of *երազգ ‎(*erazg, net for catching animals). Thus, a “place for catching animals with a net”; this was a favorite hunting ground for Orontid kings of Armenia. See երագազ ‎(eragaz) for more.
