From an Iranian word of the form *ā-xwarž-, composed of the prefix *ā- and a cognate of Ossetian хорз (xorz) / хуарз (xwarz, good), Middle Persian [Book Pahlavi needed] (hwʾlyst' /xwālist/, sweetest), Avestan 𐬓𐬀𐬭𐬆𐬰𐬌𐬱𐬙𐬀-‎(xᵛarəzišta-‎, sweetest).
