Etymology[edit]

According to Martirosyan the literal meaning is “the fallen one”, from earlier *անկտի ‎(*ankti), from անկանիմ ‎(ankanim, to fall down; to sin, prostitute) +‎ -տի ‎(-ti). Compare սամտի ‎(samti).
