Martirosyan explains the meaning as ‘harvest time, harvest of grape/fruit’, a genitive formation in -աց (-acʿ) from *ար-ա- (*ar-a-), from Proto-Armenian *o(h)ár-a-, from Proto-Indo-European *h₁os-r̥-(e)h₂, a neuter plural/collective or feminine formation from *h₁ósr̥ (autumn, end of summer, harvest-time), from the root *(s)h₁es-, with a close cognate in Ancient Greek ὀπ-ώρα (op-ṓra), ὀπ-άρα (op-ára, end of the summer, beginning of autumn; harvest, fruit).[1]
