Etymology[edit]

From Middle Median *arōδ, from Old Iranian *raudi- ‎(copper; bronze). Cognate with Manichaean Parthian rwδ ‎(rōδ), Middle Persian lwd ‎(rōy), Manichaean Middle Persian rwy ‎(rōy), Persian روی ‎(rōy, antimony, copper), Balochi رود ‎(rōd, copper) and Manichaean Sogdian rwδ ‎(rōδ, copper).
