Etymology[edit]

From Middle Median *arōδ, from Old Iranian *raudi- (copper; bronze). Cognate with Manichaean Parthian rwδ (rōδ), Middle Persian lwd (rōy), Manichaean Middle Persian rwy (rōy), Persian روی (rōy, antimony, copper), Baluchi رود (rōd, copper) and Manichaean Sogdian rwδ (rōδ, copper).
