Declension

Old Armenian

Etymology 1

Traditionally derived from Proto-Indo-European *wĺ̥kʷos (wolf)[1][2], but there are great phonetic problems.

Therefore others prefer derivation from Proto-Indo-European *waylos (howler, wolf), which replaced the usual Proto-Indo-European *wĺ̥kʷos (wolf) due to taboo.[3]

Georgian მგელი (mgeli), Laz მგერი (mgeri) and Mingrelian გერი (geri) are probably borrowed from Armenian.
