Etymology[edit]

From դաշն ‎(dašn, gentle, soft) +‎ ամուր ‎(amur, strong). Translation of Italian pianoforte, composed of piano ‎(soft) + forte ‎(loud, strong) (so called because of the ability to vary the tone of the piano, as opposed to harpsichord).
