Etymology[edit]

The basic meaning is “swelling”, from Proto-Indo-European *tuHr-so-, from *tuHr- *turH- ‎(to swell), whence also թուռ ‎(tʿuṙ), and perhaps թոռ ‎(tʿoṙ, lobe of the ear) and թուրծ ‎(tʿurc). Cognate with Ancient Greek σωρός ‎(sōrós) and Czech tvář.
