Old Armenian

Etymology 1

Probably of the same origin as կոր (kor, “crooked, curved”). Alternatively, from Կորճայք (Korčaykʻ), a province of Armenia, whose initial population was non-Armenian and whose speech seemed rough and barbarous to other Armenians.

The origin is uncertain. Perhaps is the same with կորճ (korč, “curved”), կոր (kor, “curved”), referring to the bird's curved beak.
