Old Armenian[edit]

Etymology[edit]

The origin is uncertain. According to Martirosyan, who develops J̌ahukyan's etymology, perhaps a denominative verb based on an otherwise unattested noun *հայթ (*haytʻ) inherited from a derivative of the root *sh₂ey- (to bind). See also հիանամ (hianam).

Verb[edit]

հայթեմ (haytʻem)

  1. (transitive) to attach, to adjust, to put together
