From շուն ‎(šun, dog) +‎ -ա- ‎(-a-) +‎ ձուկ ‎(juk, fish). Compare English dogfish and Ancient Greek θαλάττιος κύων ‎(thaláttios kúōn, sea dog), both referring to one of the types of shark.
