From Proto-Indo-European *h₃orǵʰ-i- +‎ ‎(-kʿ). Cognates include Ancient Greek ὄρχις ‎(órkhis), Avestan 𐬆𐬭𐬆𐬰𐬌 ‎(ǝrǝzi, testicles), Hittite [script needed] ‎(arki-, testicle), Albanian herdhe, and Middle Irish uirgge ‎(testicle). See also յորձ ‎(yorj).
