Etymology[edit]

Back-formation from words like փաղփաղիմ (pʿałpʿałim, I shine) and փաղփաղուն (pʿałpʿałun, shiny), as their root. Those words, however, are composed by reduplication of փաղ- (pʿał-), an alternative form of փայլ (pʿayl).
