Etymology

Back-formation from words like փաղփաղիմ (pʻałpʻałim, I shine) and փաղփաղուն (pʻałpʻałun, shiny), as their root. Those words, however, are composed by reduplication of փաղ- (pʻał-), an alternative form of փայլ (pʻayl).
